SUMMER SOLSTICE HOLISTIC WEEKEND RETREAT
Time to relax, unwind, renew and revitalise
The programme for this weekend will include:
Yoga
If you haven’t done Yoga before and are afraid that there will be headstands, handstands and tying ourselves up in knots....rest assured this will be Yoga for ordinary mortals and no previous experience required!
In the Saturday morning session Mairead will lead us through a ‘langhana’ session. In keeping with the theme of the day - Detox and Release - this is about purification and letting go. Working gently with forward bends, twists and emphasising the exhale you will hopefully discover how effective Yoga is for letting go and for helping even the most wound-up nervous system to come down.
Sunday’s theme is to Nourish and Re-energise. Today we will work with a ‘brahmana’ practice: with more emphasis on backbends and long inhalation acts as a tonic, nourishing and energising the system and adding a bit of fire! This is a helpful way to work when energy and confidence are low, and it can be surprisingly effective even with the simplest of postures – so still no acrobatics!
Meditation
Mindfulness and meditation in the exquisite location of the Wetlands centre, the perfect place for renewing body mind and spirit. Time to relax and unwind, time to learn how to incorporate moments of peace and tranquillity into daily life.
Nutrition talks, cookery demonstrations and meals preparation
Claire is an innovative, creative cook - a qualified Nutritional therapist with a passion for great food. Learn all about how to make delicious healthy food choices which don't feel like punishment. Find out how to gentle and safely detoxify re-nourish and vitalise through simple dietary changes - no harsh regimes, no deprivation. There will be practical, hands-on sessions where you will learn how to prepare your own healthy meals at home, with plenty of recipes and tasters - this is a great opportunity to try out new foods, to ask questions and learn new kitchen skills. If you want to get a flavour (pun intended) of Claire's recipes, check out her blog.
Herbal walks and Natural Cosmetic workshop
Modern herbalism is an art and a science, it is based on thousands of years of knowledge of plant medicine combined with 21st century evidence-based research. For practical reasons most herbalists prescribe herbal tinctures, capsules or powders for their clients, and so there is a separation between the living plant and the plant medicine. Margaret will be leading a herb walk at the Wetlands centre, to introduce participants to some of the special medicinal herbs growing right at our feet - many of them are what we call "weeds" but are powerful healing medicines. We will be gathering a few "weeds" to make our very own herbal body lotion, with a little sample to take home as a reminder of a very special weekend! There will also be a talk on herbs and detoxification, to fit in with the theme of the weekend.
Time to "just be"... while the weekend will be full of activities and opportunities to learn, there is no obligation to take part in everything, and there will also be time to just go for walks, relax, make new friends, and just simply enjoy....
